So the day is here and we are travelling to Barbados to embark the Marella Discovery for a two week cruise in the Caribbean for our honeymoon.
We purposely wanted to book this for a few months after the wedding to give something to look forward to and as it happens, also to give us some winter sun and escape from the UK bleak weather.
Flying from Manchester meant we were quite close to the airport, but it was still a super early wake up to be there a good 4 hours before flying as it’s a long haul. Once we parked up we headed to the terminal and when we were all checked in, and through security it was time for breakfast!!

We then wandered to the gate to wait to board!! We’d booked extra leg room seats, to give us space and happy to find we had no one else on our row!! WIN!
The food we were served on board was really nice – so nice we neglected to take a picture until it was all gone. Oops!

Plenty of time later we landed in Barbados, you are taken off the plane first or second depending on whether you are remaining on the island or going on the Marella Cruises. As it happens we were second off, but then straight onto buses to the port. It’s around 45 mins drive, through Bridgetown but is a beautiful drive!

Once at the port it was check in time, get our cruise cards and then on board we go!!
We decided to find our cabin, drop the bags and change as it was insanely hot and had been a long day already, then we wanted to wander the ship and see what was where. We grabbed coffee from the coffee port (included on our Premium all inclusive package, however if you are on the normal all inclusive, this is chargable!)
Not long after we headed back to the room as we saw cases were being brought on and found both cases outside our room waiting to unpack. We had plenty of space for all of our things (we massively over packed!) and storage under the bed for the cases too. We then had a nosey at the menus for the evening, to decide which restaurant we wanted to go to, and then we had to go and register at our muster point.
For anyone who hasn’t been on a cruise, all new passengers need to complete the muster drill before the ship can legally leave the port. This is essentially your emergency meet point should anything happen. With Marella this was so simple, we had a video to watch in the cabin, then a time to head to our muster point where a crew member scanned our cruise cards and we were done!
We decided this evening to go to the Italian restaurant Gallery 47, which was the upstairs space you can see from the main dining room. This is included in your cruise so is no extra cost, and the food was beautiful. Mr C ordered steak, I had Arabiatta (a spicy pasta dish) and both were devoured quickly!

The staff in the restaurant couldn’t do enough for us, bringing bread, topping up drinks, and clearing after the courses nice and quickly. We lived this restaurant so much, however I do feel we didn’t full appreciate it as we were running on around 22-23 hours by this point.
We knew we wanted to be up relatively early to get onto Caribbean time, and grab the all important sunbeds! So, we called it a night after this as we were exhausted, so headed back to the cabin to crash and get ready for our next day at sea!
Join us next time when we get the day on the ship, soaking up the sun and entertainment as we head out to the first port!
Xoxo
