Day 7 : part 1 – Bridgetown, Barbados

Day 7 and we were half way through and back to Bridgetown, Barbados for the change over day where some guests leave and other join the ship. We had a pre booked excursion with a third party company – Caribbean excursion, you save they gain – to go and tour the Mount Gay rum distillery and then a trip on a catamaran and sea turtle swim.

Starting off we had our usual stop at Islands for our breakfast, grabbed a coffee to go from The Coffee Port on deck 6, and headed down and through the port shops to find our tour guide and bus. We had about 10 people on our bus, however only 4 of us were going to the rum tour and beach.

We got a mini tour of Bridgetown, passing through the town centre shopping district, past Rhianna’s old home, and the Cricket ground (much to Mr C’s delight!) before being dropped at Mount Gay Distillery tour. Once checked in we got our drinks vouchers and were taken to the bar for an authentic Caribbean rum punch – which really did pack a punch!

The tour itself had three parts – we started off learning about the overall history of the distillery, and of rum production on the island. We were then guided inside where we learned about the different processes they use to distil the spirits to create the different versions they offer and a video presentation showing some of the master mixers at work.

Following this was Mr C’s favourite part – the rum tasting! We started with the Silver rum, moved to the Eclipse rum, then the Black Barrel and we ended with the triple blend XO rum.

Needless to say, I made it to the Eclipse then handed each glass over to Mr C the rum lover out of the pair of us to polish off which was very appreciated by him….

We were then left to roam the shop (we did resist!) before getting picked up and taken to Harbour Lights beach by the tour guide company where we checked in for our sun loungers and sea turtle experience, which we will get onto next time round!

As we had such a long time in port we really spent as much time we could out and about which is why we opted for the double excursion, but to do it justice the second part will be in another blog same time next week guys!

Xoxo
