Anyone who knows me, knows I adore Halloween! I always say the “ber” months are my favourite and this extends to my trips to Walt Disney World. there’s just something about the start of autumn/ fall when it starts to cool, Halloween is round the corner, bonfire night for us brits and then Christmas…

Over here Halloween isn’t a huge holiday, now the Americans – they go all out for it! Especially in Disney, and when the pumpkins appear on Main Street you know it’s time for Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party! I’ve been three times now and here is my top 5 reasons why these parties are a must do on your trip:

1. Exclusive characters

You can meet exclusive character you can’t meet any other time in the parks! They can range from Jack and sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, to your beloved characters like Stitch in costume – Elvis Stitch will forever be a core memory for me.

They do attract some hefty queues though, so it is important to get in line early if they are a must do on your trip but you can get some amazing pictures and it is worth it!

2. Boo to you parade

This is an exclusive parade which you can only see during MSSHP. Featuring your faves like Mickey and friends in their Halloween finest, some lesser seen characters like Jack Sparrow and the hitchhiking ghosts, and then finishing off with the best of the bad this is a non miss attraction during the parties. It runs twice each night so you have a couple of chances to see this, it takes the same route as Festival of Fantasy, so you can get your usual spot and get a good view! The grave diggers are a definite highlight and the song will be in your head for ever….

3. Trick or treating

Who doesn’t love to trick or treat? how about doing the treat trails around the Magic Kingdom?

They shut down certain restaurants and swap them to treat trails where you honestly get scoops of treats! As you enter the party you get given a goodie bag which you can then slowly fill with sweet treats as much or as little as you want…

4. Halloween fireworks and projections

Another party specific show is the Halloween fireworks and projections. Similar to the traditional show you have the castle projections however the graphics and the music pay homage to Minnie and co going on an adventure and encountering the villains we love to hate!

This is usually just before or just after the Sanderson Sisters show so I’d always suggest trying to see both at once then they are ticked off your to do list!

Nothing says Halloween is here more than Hocus Pocus! Personally I watch this about 5 times during October, it’s a classic.

Another party specific event, the Sanderson sisters are resurrected again in the Magic Kingdom and call upon the best of the bad to help them cast their spells over the party and the parks. With super catchy music and special effects this is another must see in the parties! But get there early to get a good spot….

I hope this has helped a few people, I do honestly think it’s worth the money as there are so many exclusive things you do and see during the party which you can’t normally, and who doesn’t want to trick or treat around Magic Kingdom?!
